Artist's Statement
My Holocaust Remembrance artwork is about a German man named Carl Lutz. Lutz is credited with saving over 62,000 Jews during WWII, making it possibly the largest rescue operation of the Holocaust. If Lutz was still here, I would tell him that I admire his bravery especially because he was German, knowing the consequences of helping Jews. He inspired me to help people no matter who they are and what they look like. Therefore, I wanted to draw Lutz protecting a large group of Jews being protected from the horrors of the Nazi soldiers. I wanted Lutz to look like he is hiding and sheltering them from Nazi harm.
