Artist's Statement
In my piece, “Saviors Amongst the Storm,” I discussed the different actions of non-Jewish individuals who aided during the Holocaust. Varian Fry, an American journalist, played an important part in rescuing anti-Nazi writers and artists from France. Jan Karski, a member of the Polish underground movement helped by smuggling himself into ghettos under false identities and helping the Jews. Gino Bartali, a talented athlete, used his gift of cycling to deliver messages by hand during the war while aiding many Italian Jews. These are just some of the examples of the many brave people who made a difference during the Holocaust.
