"Overwhelmingly Ordinary" by Claire Rimmer, Caddo Magnet High School Talented Arts

Artist's Statement

My work is titled "Overwhelmingly Ordinary." The stage it represents is violence against people and property of certain groups. My artwork alludes to to Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, which is one example of violence against the Jewish population leading up to the Holocaust. One the night of November 8, 1938, shops and other property  owned by Jews were destroyed  by Nazi groups. My artwork also brings to light the modern day violence against religious groups. In the silhouette it lists major religions and places they are highly persecuted in today. In many countries, it is illegal to worship freely, so I used the lists of countries and religions to represent the people who experience violence today because of their beliefs.
