Author's Statement

Irene Opdyke and Anne Braden are both examples of people who chose to exhibit moral courage in the face of adversity, even when they didn't have to - Irene saved the lives of hundreds of Jews and Anne was one of the first women trailblazers fighting against racism. I chose to write about Irene and Anne because they involved themselves in fighting for equality and justice even though they weren't forced to. They inspire me to always stand up for what I believe is right - even if there are forces stopping me.
