Artist's Statement
The piece is inspired by Auschwitz survivor Bill Harvey and it is sectioned into three pieces and done in watercolors, charcoal and pencil. The watercolor shows the dreamlike life that Harvey had when he was younger working in the vineyards. The middle is with charcoal, surrounded by black silhouettes to display the despair he felt as he was transported in the cattle car. The last is acrylic, and the colors are vibrant with a sunset representing his old age. He is in pencil to show that some of his past still lingers.
